SALE AT FEILDING. A BETTER TONE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, May 19. A better tone prevailed at the live stock sale held in Feilding today, prices for fat sheep as well as for store cattle appreciating slightly. .For ewes and wethers prices were hardly above recent rates. Run cattle came forward in good numbers and sales took place more freely than last ,week, though there was no increase in prices. For store cattle, prices were unchanged; dairy cattle sold well. There was a fail’ demand for beef, with the better quality sorts meeting keener competition. The quality, generally, was better, with most of the entry changing hands. Quotations are:—

Sheep: Prime wethers, 18s to 19s 2d, second grade, 17s to 17s lOd, unfinished, 15s to 16s 8d; prime finished ewes, 13s to 13s 9d, second quality, 11s to 12s 6d, light, 9s 6d to 10s 6d, unfinished, 7s to 8s 7d; prime lambs, 17s to 17s 7d, unfinished, 12s 6d to 13s lid; best wether lambs, 10s 7d, smaller, 6s lOd to Bs, others, 5s 7d to 6s 7d; good ewe lambs, 17s 6d, small, 9s 4d, best b.f. lambs, 9s 4d to 10s 6d, small, 6s 9d. Cattle: Choice springing heifers, £8 15s to £9 ss, later calvers, £5 5s to £7 10s, .poor, £3 10s to £5; heifers in milk, £4 to £6 ss; springing cows, £5 10s; light prime A.A. cows, £4 to £5 Is; prime Hereford heifers, £6 10s, lighter, £5 10s to £5 13s 6d, unfinished £4 to £4 17s 6d; prime cows and heifers, £6 12s 6d, lighter, £5 3s 6d to £5 15s; light prime bullocks, £7 to £7 ss, second quality, £6 10s to £6 17s 6d, unfinished £5 17s 6d to £6 ss; exdairy cows, best, £4 to £4 15s, others to £3 15s; vealers, £1 5s to £2 7s; well-grown two-and-a-half-year A.A. steers, £7, others, £5 10s; Hereford steers, £6 ss; two-and-a-half-year A.A. heifers, best, £5 7s 6d, small, £2 18s; 20-month A.A. and Hereford steers, £3 7s to £4 3s; empty A.A. cows, best, £2 19s, poor, £1 3s to £1 14s.

Pigs: Weaners, Ils 6d to 15s 6d; small, 3s 6d to 5s 6d; slipjs, 15s 6d to 17s.

CARTERTON SALE. PRICES ON PAR WITH LAST WEEK. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd. report as follow: —A small yarding of sheep, cattle, and pigs came forward at our Carterton sale yesterday and was offered to a fair attendance. Prices were on a par with last week’s. Sale practically at total clearance being effected, under the hammer. The following are some of the realisations: Sheep: Fat wethers, to 18s 6d; 6-yr. ewes r.w. S.D. to 5s 9d; good woolly wether lambs, to 9s Id; b.f.'lambs, to 7s 3d; b.f. lambs (small), to ss; small shorn wether'lambs, to 2s 3d. Cattle: 3yr Jersey cross heifers, close to profit, £9 to £ll ss; second calvers on drop, £8 to £8 ss; springing cows, to £6 10s; fat cows, £3 10s to £4 12s; forward cows, £2 to £3; store cows, 25s to 38s; cull cows, 12s to 235; bulls, £3 15s to £7. Pigs: Weaners (good), 6s 6d to 8s; (medium), 5s to 6s; (small), 3s 6d to 4s 6d; slips, 10s to 14s 6d; store pigs, 15s to 18s 6d; light porkers, 20s to 245; porkers, 28s to 42s 6d.
