FROZEN MEAT TRADE
PRICES IN LONDON IMPROVED DEMAND FOR MUTTON. LAMB MARKET FIRMER. Lamb market: Firmer, with improved price prime lamb 2’s and B’s; there is a better feeling in the market. Mutton market: Wethers and ewes, steady with improved demand. Beef market: Frozen beef, meeting with fair inquiry; chilled beef, slightly easier owing to heavier supplies. New Zealand porker pigs: Unchanged, with usual slow trade. New Zealand baconer pigs: Trade slow, owing to weak bacon market. The above report was received yesterday by the Meat Board from its London off ide, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday, May 18. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week on which this list is issued. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market.

Frozen meat quotations (prices on a delivered basis, i.e., including storage charges, cartage, market tolls, etc): —North Island Down lambs, 28/361bs, 7d; 36/42 lbs, 6 3-8 d; best North Island xbd lambs. 28/36, 6.? d; 36/42 6Jd. North Island 2nd quality lambs, av. 30/311bs, 6 3-8 d; best North Island wether sheep, under 481bs, 4 3-8 d; 48/56, 3fd; 56/64, 3 3-8 d; 64/72, 3 l-Bd. North Island ewes, under 481bs, 3 3-8 d; 48/56’s, 27-8 d; 56/64’s, 25-8 d; 64/72’s, 2Jd. N.Z.. prime ox beef, 160/2201b5, none offering. Compared with last week’s quotations, all grades of lamb were l-8d per lb higher; wethers, u/48 lbs were l-8d per lb lower, with others unchanged. The lamb market shows a little better feeling, but there is no change of importance for mutton.
