VALUED CHURCH WORKER

MR McCORMACK'S SERVICES. RECOGNISED AT SOCIAL GATHERING. Members and adherents of the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church gathered at a social held last night in the Church Hall, to make a presentation to Mr Alex. McCormack on the occasion of his approaching marriage. Mr McCormack, who now resides in Hawera, was the organist at the Lansdowne Church for some years, and in asking him to accept the gift of a chiming clock from his friends at the church, the Rev. Robert Dickie, a former minister of the church, emphasised the willing service Mr McCormack had given as organist and in other spheres of the church's activities. The Rev. David McNeur, the present minister, Mr H. Truman, the Bible Class leader, and Mr Alan Handyside, representing the Y.M.C.A. Optimists Club, also spoke appreciatively of Mr McCormack’s association with the work on behalf of the church and the Optimists Club. Mr McCormack suitably responded. During the evening, instrumental, vocal and elocutionary items were rendered by Mrs H. M. Morton, Miss S. Dunbar, Miss M. McLaren, Mr S. Taylor and Mr L. Morgan. Supper was served by the ladies of the church, and the gathering closed with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” ' Mr A. D. McCormack is to be married to Miss M. Fraser of the Wairarapa College staff, and their future home will be in Hawera.
