YOUNG FARMERS
DEBATE BETWEEN CARTERTON AND TINUI. MODERN SCIENCE & HUMANITY. (“Times-Age” Special.) . “That modern science has, in the balance, proved a benefit to humanity" 'was the subject debated last night by members of the Carterton and Tinu Young Farmers’ Clubs. The debate took place at Tinui. The affirmative was taken by Carterton, led by Mr B. Brassell, who was supported by Messrs E. Williams and M. Knutson and the negative by Tinui. led by Mr E. Schofield and supported by Messrs R. Curran and R. Spooner. By special invitation. Mr James Watson was asked to adjudicate. He awarded the debate to Tinui with 127 points, this team scoring a narrow win over Carterton by a margin of four points. Mr Watson stated that in comparison with four previous debates held by various Young Farmers’ clubs which he had heard the standard set on this occasion was the highest he had yet experienced. The variety of subjects and the world-wide outlook included in the subject of the debate was a matter for’ congratulating both competing teams. The teams and visitors were entertained at supper at the conclusion of the debate.
