PLUNKET SOCIETY.
THE TRUBY KING MEMORIAL. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Plunket Society is making a national appeal for funds to worthily commemorate the late Sir Truby King’s services to women and children. This appeal, which was inaugurated on the 32nd anniversary of the founding of the society, is under the patronage of their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral and Lady Galway. The Prime Minister has announced that the sum of £5OOO is required; £2,500 will go towards an Endowment Fund for the purposes of the maintenance and upkeep of Truby King House; £2,500 or more, it is hoped, will provide an income for post-gradute course for Plunket and Karitane nurses; £3OO will be spent on a monument to be erected above the burial place of the late Sir Truby King, at Melrose, Wellington, and £lOO is desired for a portrait of Sir Truby to hang in the House. The Featherston branch of the Plunket Society will sending in its quota to head office, and it is hoped that the response will be in keeping with a noble cause. The members of the community should feel it a duty and honour to support the memorial. Invaluable services to mankind were given by the late Sir Truby King, and it is hoped that at the conclusion of the three months’ campaign, the required sum will have been oversubscribed.
BADMINTON CLUB. OPENING OF SEASON. There was a fair attendance at the opening of the season, and several interesting games contested. The season promises to be quite good as several new members intend joining. The club is particularly fortunate in having for its secretary Miss Jean Tutbury whose energy and enthusiasm is largely responsible for the progress of the club. The annual meeting which was to have been held last night was postponed to Tuesday next. Personal Items. Miss Kitty Rowles is spending a vacation in Dannevirke. ' Mr Alex McLeod, who has been spending his annual leave in Wellington and Petone, has returned. Mrs James Begg, Dunedin, the Dominion President of the N.Z. Society for the Health of Women and Children, known as the Plunket Society, is visiting the Wairarapa, the object of her visit being in connection with the memorial fund for the late Sir Truby King. Mrs Begg will meet the presidents and secretaries of the various branches throughout the Wairarapa to discuss matters. HOME & SCHOOL ASSOCIATION. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT. The weekly euchre tournament of the Home and School Association was held in the Anzac Hall on Tuesday night, there being a fair attendance. As will be noticed by the results the male element was sadly in the minority. The first prize was won by Mrs M. Nix with Mrs C. E. Skipage second in the ladies’ division, while Miss S. Robinson and Mrs F. A. O’Neale, acting as men, carried off the honours in the men’s division'.
It has been decided to hold the evenings in the Oddfellows’ Hall in future. MINIATURE RIFLES. SCORES IN WEEKLY CONTEST. A bogey match will be held next Wednesday, and the annual club match with Carterton on Thursday.
