TRANSPORT BOARD
ELECTION RESULTS. EQUAL REPRESENTATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 17. The provisional results of the election of members of the Auckland Transport Beard, held on May 3, are not materially altered by the official count, whicn was completed today. Control of the board is equally divided between representatives of the Auckland Citizens’ and Ratepayers’ Association and the Labour Party, five candidates from each organisation being successful at the polls. The situation of the new board, as revealed by the official count, presents interesting probabilities. It is considered likely that each section will nominate a candidate for the chairmanship, a position that will be of paramount importance, as the chairman will possess a deliberative vote, as well as a casting vote. The Act provides that, if there should bo an equality of votes m the election of the chairman, the position shall be determined by lot, in such manner as the board may direct. On the provisional count the last of the successful City candidates, Captain R. S. Judson, V.C. (Citizens) was only 12 votes ahead of the first of the unsuccessful candidates, Mr C. Bailey (Labour). However, Captain Judson gained in the official count and increased his margin over Mr Bailey to 65 votes. There were no other material changes.
