DONALD GOLF CUP. EASY WIN FOR LOCAL TEAM. (“Times-Age” Special.) The second round for the local golf trophies was played on Saturday afternoon. The best - card for the ladies was returned by Miss P. Schofield with 59 net and S. Gray handed in a net 65 for the men. I. McGregor defeated A. McGregor in a Nimmo Cup match, and Mrs I. McGregor defeated Mrs A. McGregor in a Kummerstein Cup challenge. Mrs Schofield and S. Gray beat Miss Vennell and F. Cotter in a challenge for the silver buttons. ■ There will not be any match on the links during this weekend as the local team will visit Hinakura on Saturday next which is the usual playing day. The first round of the children’s competition for the McGregor Cup was played on Tuesday, and the final round for this season will be played during the September holidays. The best cards in the first round are: —Elfie Bannister, 68; P. Schofield, 75; Bruce McGregor, 63, and Frank Cotter, 68. Donald Cup. The first match of the season, for the Cup was played on the local links over the weekend in perfect weather, when Homewood were decisively defeated by Te Wharau (the holders). In the fourball Te Wharau won four game and two games wbre all square. In the ladies’ singles, Te Wharau won both games and in the men’s singles they won eight games and one game was halved. z The following are the results, the Homewood players being mentioned first: — Ladies’ fourball: Mrs F. Tatham and Mrs J. Birch lost to Mrs E. Nitz and Miss P. Schofield. Ladies' singles: Mrs F. Tatham lost to Mrs Nitz, and Mrs Bird was defeated by Miss P. Schofield. Men’s fourball: F. Tatham and I. Tomlin lost to H. Paku' and E. Nitz; C. Maunsell and T. Paku halved with M. Paku and N. Kummer; C. Hay and W. Taggart lost to W. Kummer and R. Bannister; P. Paku and R. Tatham and I. McGregor and S. Gray, all square; I. McKay and A. McGregor lost to J. Bannister and N. Foreman. Men’s singles: F. Tatham was defeated' by H. Paku; I. Tomlin lost to E. Nitz; C. Maunsell lost to M. Paku; T. Paku lost to N. Kummer; C. Hay and W. Kummer, all square; W. Taggart lost to R. Bannister; R. Tatham lost to S. Gray; P. Paku lost to I. McGregor; and I. McKay was defeated by J. Bannister. The next match for the cup will be played on June 4 when Te Wharau will defend a challenge from Wainui-o-ru (Stronvar) Club on the local links.

The district was visited by a very severe storm on Tuesday morning, but, fortunately, it was of very short duration. In the space of half an hour 108 points of rain fell accompanied by hail and snow, finishing with considerable thunder and lightning.
