OBITUARY

SAMOAN HIGH CHIEF TAUA

The death has occurred of Taua, high chief- of the Lepa district, Upolo, aged 62. He was chief inspector of native schools and had been connected with the Education Department since 1914. During his time pupils in the’ native schools increased from 400 to 11,000. He spoke English and German fluently and was greatly interested in countries outside Samoa. In 1928 he visited New Zealand for two months at the expense of the Administration. Taua was liked and respected by all Samoans and also by Europeans with whom he came in contact.
