PROGRESS OF THE BRITISH BILL. . (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 15. The remaining stages of the Military Training Bill will be completed in the House of Commons this week. Consideration of the Bill in committee concluded today and the report stage and the third reading will be taken on Thursday. RATES OF PAY. LAND & AIR FORCES. (Independent Cable Service.) LONDON, May 16. Supplementary estimates issued today state that army conscripts will be paid Is 6d a day, with a married allowance of 17s a week. During training conscript R.A.F. and Fleet Air Arm pilots will be paid 2s 9d a day, observers 2s, and air gunners Is 6d. TRADE UNION HELP. CO-OPERATION IN WAR TIME. (Independent Cable Service.) LONDON, May 16. Despite powerful'Left Wing opposition, the General Council of the Trade Union Congress has drawn up a plan to co-operate with the Government in war time and to create industrial committees to handle the question of wages, hours and conditions. The sponsors of the plan take the view that conscription was inevitable, and that therefore it is most important to concentrate on a long-term policy. The plan is stated to be contingent on Government assurances that profits and food prices will be controlled. BILL HELD UP. CONSCRIPTION OF WEALTH. . (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON. May 16. In the House of Commons the Prime Minister, Mr Neville Chamberlain, refused to give facilities for a second reading of Mr G. le M. Mander’s (Lab) Conscription of Wealth Bill.
