LOAN FOR SPAIN
ASSURANCE DEMANDED FROM FRANCO. NEUTRALITY IN EVENT OF WAR. (British Official Wireless.) LONDON, May 15. The Brussels correspondent of the “Daily Express” says that M. Van Zeeland, former Belgian Premier, is negotiating a £20,000,000 loan to Spain on behalf of the Mendelsohn Bank of Amsterdam and Lazard’s international banking firm. They are demanding General Franco’s assurance that he will not join a military pact between Italy and Germany, and that, in case of war. Spain will be neutral.
