Record at Brisbane.
When Spear Chief beat Wotan’s Australasian two-mile record in Brisbane recently the electric timing clock was not operating but the watch-holder was a man of experience and his time was confirmed by other watches in the trainers’ stand. McCarten expressed surprise when told about the time, and said Spear Chief could easily have beaten the world's record had he been pushed. Spear Chief’s time, 3min 19 : ; sec, was llsec better than Wotan’s, and the world’s record is 3min 19 l-ssec, by Within the Law. at York, England. Spear Chief carried 9.7. Wotan 7.11. and Within the Law 7.11. Impressive. A big impression was created by Saccone when he won the ninefurlong hack event at Pukckohe, for he literally left a useful field of staying hacks standing in' the last half-furlong to win easing up by the best part of three lengths. Now that this horse has come right he may win again shortly.
