Mrs V. Buick, of Mt Bruce, is visiting Paraparaumu. Mrs T. Bedding, of Eketahuna, is at present on a visit .to the South Island. Mrs B. A. Tomlinson, of Pleckville, has had as her guest, Mrs A. J. Meads, of Levin. Mr and‘Mrs’C. Mclntosh, of Christchurch, who are on a tour of the North Island, are at present at Masterton prior to returning south. Mrs Brian Greensill, and her daughter, Madreen, of Queen Charlotte Sound, are the guests of Mrs T. R. Barrer, Renall Street, Masterton. Mrs Loft and Miss Audrey Loft, of Masterton, are returning to Wellington by the Wanganella on May 31, after spending six months in Melbourne and Sydney. Mrs N. E. Blomfield. president of the Hamilton branch of the Plunket Society, who had been on a visit to her mother. Mrs Christie, of Nireaha, has returned home. A presentation to Mrs E. Maslen, a former member of the council of the Wellington branch of the League of Nations Union, was made at the annual meeting of the branch last night. Mrs Maslen had retired from office and is going to live in 'the South Island. The chairman, the Rev. Gordon McKenzie, thanked Mrs Maslen for her services to the branch, specially mentioning that she had "mothered” it from the very beginning. Mrs Jessie-Watt, Wanganui, celebrated her ninety-eighth birthday yesterday, when she received good wishes from many friends. Mrs Watt came from Scotland in 1862 and has lived in Wanganui for most of her life. A trained singer and a good pianist, her services were in great demand for a longperiod of years. Mrs Watt made her last appearance in public at the age of 80. For many .years she taught the piano and gave singing lessons, and she did not give up teaching till her eighty-third year, at which time she was giving 52 lessons a week and previous to that she had been giving 60., Miss Margaret Bell, who has lived in the Nireaha district for 38 years, on Sunday celebrated her 80th birthday, when there was a large gathering of friends at her residence “Camelia Grove.” Miss Bell was the recipient of a number of telegrams of congratulation from various parts* of New Zealand. She cut two birthday cakes, one bearing 80 candles and the artistic work of Mrs Cornforth, the other with 8 larger candles (each symbolising 10 years), the happy thought and gift of a niece, Mrs F. H. Smith. Miss Bell was born in Wellington, her home being on the site of the present fire brigade station on Clyde Quay.
CARTERTON. ("Times-Age” Special.) Mrs P. Beere, Clifton Avenue, is spending a holiday with relatives in the Waverly district. Mrs W. Gregor, Wakelin Street, who has been spending a short holiday at Lower Hutt, returned home, on Saturday. Mr Johannes Anderson, of Wellington, will be the speaker at the League of Mothers meeting on Thursday, when the subject will be “Birds and Their Calls.”
