WAIRARAPA CHAMPIONSHIPS. CARTERTON BEAT HASTWELLS. The Wairarapa Hockey Association’s fixtures were advanced a stage further on Saturday under ideal conditions. In the senior men division most interest was centered in the Carterton —Hdstwells match. The game was played at Carterton, and a very interesting contest resulted in a win for the local team by 5/1. Kiwi and Wesley met on the Lansdowne ground, the honours going to Kiwi by 4/2 after a rather patchy display by both teams. Kiwi started off weil and had a three-goal lead till just before half time when Wesley scored. Both teams scored in. the second spell which produced very moderate hockey. The junior games were again very uneven and some big scores were registered. The following are the results: Senior Men. Kiwi beat Wesley 4/2. Carterton beat Hastwells 5/1. Dalefield a bye. Junior. Wesley A beat Wesley B 11/0. C.O. Boys beat Carterton 20/1. College A beat Dalefield 6/1. Carterton A beat Greytown A 2/0. Grey town B beat College B by default. WOMEN’S GAMES. The Wairarapa Women’s Hockey Association’s fixtures played on Saturdday saw a big surprise when Carter-, ton beat Kia Ora A by 1/0 at Carterton. Kia Ora were picked as the only team likely to upset Excelsior this season and their defeat on Saturday must have been a big surprise to their supporters. Carterton, however, must be congratulated as they are very keen and put in a lot of practice. Kiwi made their first appearance against Kia Ora B and ran out winners by 8/3. Their win was not as easy as the score- would indicate; in fact at half time the score was 3 all. The second spell, however, saw Kia Ora collapse and Kiwi added the extra goals to make their good tally. School holidays affected the junior women’s games with the result that only one match was played. Results:— Senior. Carterton beat-Kia Ora A 1/0. Kiwi beat Kia Ora B 8/3. Excelsior beat College by default. Junior. Featherston beat College C 1/0. Excelsior beat College by default.
