WORLD’S FAIR
UNITED KINGDOM DAY CELEBRATED ELABORATE & COLOURFUL PAGEANTRY. BRITISH AMBASSADOR ENTERTAINED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK. May 13. Colourful pageantry filled the day at the World’s Fair, with parades, band music, waving flags, prancing horses, marching troops, gold-braided uniforms, top hats and morning clothes marking the celebration of United Kingdom Day and the dedication of the British, Australia and colonial pavilions. The events included a reception, a review of soldiers, sailors and marines, a -luncheon, tree-planting in the garden of the British pavilion, official opening ceremonies, tea in the garden, and finally a dinner tendered to the Ambassador, Sir Ronald Lindsay, by the Fair officials. The enthusiasm with which the large crowd cheered Sir Ronald Lindsay was a happy augury of the reception awaiting their Majesties. Sir Ronald Lindsay devoted his address mostly to a description of the United Kingdom exhibits, but expressed the hope that the exhibits would serve as symbols of the deeper ties between England and America. “May these pavilions be a sign for all to see that instead of separating our two countries the ocean is a connecting link,” he said. Other speakers included the Australian Trade Commissioner, Mr L. R. Macgregor, the New Zealand Trade Commissioner, Mr Firth, and theMayor of New York, Mr F. La Guardia.
