ROAD CYCLING

WAIRARAPA CLUB. RACE WON BY E. LEFORT. The Wairarapa Amateur Cycling Club conducted its weekly race on Saturday over a distance of 24 miles, the course being from Fly and Young’s corner, Dixon Street, to the Waiohine River bridge and return. The weather was fine though a cold, strong southerly wind hampered the ten riders somewhat on the outward journey. E. Lefort, D. Mayes, A. Morris and K. Gilbert were the first away, being on the six minute mark, followed later by M. Graham and C. Gourlay (2min. 30secs.), J. McAliece (2min.), G. Goodin (Imin. 30secs.)> and R. Copp and J. Brader (scratch). Lefort, Morris and Gilbert were first to the turn; later came Graham, Copp, Brader, McAleice, Goodin and Mayes in that order. Lefort and Morris left Gilbert shortly afterwards. Copp and Brader who were about 2mins. behind the two leaders, caught Graham but left him after a couple of miles. Goodin was unfortunate enough to crash a mile before the . turn but he remounted and gave an almost successful chase after the leaders. C. Gourlay retired shortly after the start of the race. E? Lefort crossed the line a half a wheel ahead of Morris to secure first place. These two riders put up a great fight to hold off the two scratch riders, Copp and Brader, who finished 25 secs later followed closely by Goodin, and later Graham, Gilbert and McAliece and Mayes. The following was the result: —E. Lefort (6mins.), 1; A. Morris (6mins.), 2; R. Copp (scr.), 3; J. Brader (scr.), 4. Fastest time honours: R. Copp (scr.), 1; J. Brader (scr.), 2; G.
