SUGAR QUOTAS
BRITAIN DEMANDS ADDITIONAL AMOUNT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, May 11. The discussions of the executive committee of the Sugar Council are expected to continue for some days. At present the council is seeking to secure an agreement to release a substantial part of the Cuban surplus of 200,000 tons. Other countries, especially Java, however, require some compensation in the form of increased quotas next year. It is understood that Britain has claimed an additional amount of 80,000 to 90,000 tons for the colonial and Dominion quotas in connection with special Government emergency purchases and may withdraw from the council if agreement on all points is not quickly reached.
