MATERNITY BENEFITS
COMING INTO OPERATION ON MONDAY. In our advertising columns today formal notification is given of the coming into operation on May 15 of maternity benefits provided under the Social Security Act. Particulars are given as to the range of the services that are the subject of the benefits. An appended list correct to May 10, shows hospitals (public and private) in which the benefits are available and in addition the obstetric nurses and medical practitioners who have entered into contracts with the Minister of Health to provide services. It will be seen that benefits are available in many places ' throughout the Dominion and the Health Department advises that additions are being made daily. Explanatory leaflets detailing the procedure in connection with these benefits are being made available at offices of the Health and the Social Security Departments.
It must be emphasised that benefits are obtainable only from those whose names appear in the official list.
Statements by the Minister of Health (Mr Fraser) and by Dr. J? P. S. Jamieson, for the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, together with the lists of nurses and medical men who have entered into maternity service contracts, will be found on page 5.
