NEWSPAPER PRICES
WITHDRAWAL OF DISCOUNT. ON ACCOUNT OF HIGH COSTS. On account of a heavy and continuing increase in costs, the proprietors of the “Wairarapa Times-Age” regretfully find themselves compelled to withdraw, as from Monday next, the discount hitherto allowed to the regular subscribers to the paper. The price henceforth for all delivered copies will be one shilling per week. ► This action has been postponed as long as possible. The discount on the price of daily newspapers was withdrawn over twelve months ago in the South Island. More recently ,a number of North Island newspapers have had to follow suit, and Wellington papers are now doing the same. On account of the heavy increase that has taken place in newspaper production costs of all kinds—a thirty per cent increase in the price of newsprint is only an item in the list —the “TimesAge” can do nothing else than withdraw the discount as stated, from and including Monday next.
