Opposition to- certain suggested changes in the Apprenticeship Act was expressed in a report to the Board of Governors of the Christchurch Technical College by the finance committee. The committee reported that it had considered the proposed Apprenticeship Act in so far as it affected technical schools and tneir students, and it disapproved of attendance of apprentices at technical schools being made compulsory during working hours. It disapproved also of the proposal to pay extra wages throughout the apprenticeship to boys who had received one or two years of technical instuction before entering the apprenticeship. It approved, however, of the practice in many trades of paying additional wages to apprentices in their third year and upwards for passing recognised examinations that were of value to them in their trade.
