FANCY DRESS DANCE

QUEEN CARNIVAL GATHERING. 1 (“Times-Age” Special.) A highly successful children’s and . adults’ fancy dress dance was held in the Kahutara Hall on Wednesday even- ] ing for the "Green” Queen, Miss : Nancy Corlet. Udy’s Orchestra sup- , plied the music and Messrs C. Corlet ; and A. Rendle capably carried out the duties of M.C’s. , The prizes in the children s class were kindly donated by Mrs A. McKay, of Pihautea, and were awarded as '' follow:— Girls: Beryl McKay (Fairy), 1; B. Sutherland (Skater), 2; P Rendle (Snow White), 3. Boys: J. Davidson (Indian), 1; G. Hodder (Little Boy Blue), 2; C. Lee (Haiwiian), 3. A special prize donated by Mrs D. Sutherland fell to T. Dowling who was dressed as a swagger. The judges, Mr and Mrs H. Mortensen of Carterton, and Mrs S. G. Grant, had a very difficult task in making their decisions as the costumes weie many and varied. Later the adults took the floor and there was much merrymaking and amusement vzhen "Ten Pretty Girls arrived. They were voted the star performers of the evening and kept things in lively vein. One of the "Ten Pretty Girls” was the "Red ’ Queen, Miss Ngaire Tocker. Much amusement and laughter was caused by the holding of a Mock Court, the judge being Mr H. Mortensen; Clerk of Court, Mr A. Rendle, and the two constables, J. Saba and I. Blain, who had an extremely busy time m “running in” people. For those not interested in the fun and frolic of the dance hall, euchre was provided, the prize winners being Mrs Riki and D. Kitney.. The gathering was brought to a close during the early hours of the morning, all present having had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The funds of the “Green” Queen should be considerably increased as the result of this splendid effort. During the evening a competition for a sucking pig was- held, the winner being Mr D. Carlyon, of Featherston. Position of Queens. The “Red” Queen, Miss Ngaire Tocker, is still in the lead for the Plunket Queen Carnival with 5800 votes, being followed closely by the “Yellow” Queen, Miss Eileen Cole, 5741 votes. Next is Miss Anne Fellingham (“Blue ’ Queen) with 4800, while the “Green” Queen, Miss Nancy Corlet _has 1120 votes - , n » Since the last recording the Yellow Queen has forestalled the “Blue” Queen for second position, otherwise the positions are the same. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB. SCORES IN WEEKLY SHOOT. The following were the scores registered at the weekly shoot of the Featherston Club.—K. McKenzie 99, T. Browne 96, I. Sigvertsen 96, H. Rolls 95 J. The first round of the Victoria Cup and Challenge Shield will be played on the Wairarapa Club’s links at Rototawai on Saturday next. The ladies of the Featherston Club held a Stableford competition on the local links on Wednesday, the results being as follows: —Mrs M. Batchelor, 1, Mrs F. J. Staples, 2; Mrs H. Lovegrove. 3; and Miss M. Ruane, 4. The first round in the medal match for Mr T. G. Hardie’s trophy will be playedtat Gumgrove on Saturday. Hockey Team. The following is the Featherston team to play College C at Donalds paddock (end of Fox Street) at 2.4 a p.m. tomorrow: —Misses P. Hatton, J Brash, L. Ritchie. N. Hatton, A. Lewis. L Crosbie, M.
