Mr M. J. Reardon has been reappointed a conciliation commissioner. The Hon P. Fraser, Minister of Education, left Wellington yesterday by motor-car for the Wanganui district. He will return to Wellington at the weekend. -• Mr and Mrs F. B. Blundell and family, of Tatafamaka, Taranaki, arrived in Masterton today on a visit to Mrs Blundell’s parents, Mr and Mrs S. J. Gill, Cole Street. s The resignation of Mr W. H. Jackson was accepted at last night’s meeting of the Trust Lands Trust and it was decided to write expressing keen appreciation of his valuable work over a period of 27 years. To take the position of curate at St Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, Wellington, the Rev A. F. Collard-Scruby arrived by the Rotorua yesterday from London, accompanied by his wife. He was formerly curate at the church of St Michael and All Angels, Stonebridge Park, London.

Mr W. Ball, whose marriage to Miss Nita Ingley took place last week, was the recipient of a suitable presentation from the staff of Wairarapa College, of which he is a member, and also from the pupils. The presentation from the staff was made by Mr A. J. Drew, whose remarks were endorsed by the Principal, Mr G. G. Hancox, and by Mr G. W. Morice, and that from the pupils by Rex Daniell, head boy. Prior to leaving the staff of Wairarapa College, Miss M. F. Fraser, whose marriage takes place shortly, was farewelled by the staff at morning tea. Mr A. J. Drew, on behalf of the staff, presented her with an appropriate gift, and Mr G. G. Hancox- (principal) and Mr G. W. Morice also spoke. At afternoon assembly, the head girl, Pat Baskiville, handed Miss Fraser a present from the pupils. Consideration was given at yesterday's caucus of members of the Parliamentary Labour Party to the question of a successor to the late Mr E. J. Howard as chairman of committees in the House of Representatives. The Prime Minister, Mr Savage, said lash evening that caucus • was of opinion that the Chief Government Whip, Mr R, McKeen, M.P. for Wellington South, should be nominated for the position. Mr McKeen would-therefore be nominated as chairman of committees when Parliament met next month. The present Speaker of the House,. Mr Barnard, would be nominated for a further term as Speaker. Mr N. Hogben (Dannevirke) waselected -president of the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Association, in succession to Mr J. Hutton (Gisborne), at the concluding session of the annual conference of the association yesterday. Mr H. A. Heron (Wellington) was elected president. The following executive was elected: —Miss E. M. North (Wellington). Mr W. A. Armour (Wellington), Mr J. N. Millard (Hutt Valley), Mr Lancaster (Christchurch), Mr G. Morice (Wairarapa), Mr A. W. Short (Auckland). Miss C. G. Mahoney (Dannevirke). Mr A. H. Thom (Wellington) was elected secretary. The following officers were elected yesterday by the New Zealand Technical School Teachers’ Association: — President, Mr G. A. Thompson (Wanganui); vice-presidents, Mr G. W. C. Drake (Auckland) and Mr B. M. Davis (Auckland): auditor. Miss E. M. Copping (Wellington); secretary, Mr T. L. James (Wellington); representatives on the Teachers Court of Appeal, Mr G. W. C. Drake (North Island) and Mr L. R. R. Denny (South Island); committee, Miss C. E. Robinson (Christchurch), Messrs H. M.. Scott (Palmerston North). W. M. Stewart (Greymouth). D. L. Mclver) (Dunediie) and A. A. Kirk (Welling-i. ton).
