WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

KAITUNA—FERNRIDGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs J. Welsh presided at the monthly meeting of the Kaituna-Fernridge Women’s Institute when there was a good attendance of members. Mrs Pike gave a splendid report on the first annual meeting of the Wairarapa Federation meeting held in Masterton. Mrs Scharnwebber demonstrated baskets making with raffia. The monthly competitions resulted as follows:—Seniors: Eggless date cake. Mrs Keir, 1; Mrs Ramsay, 2. Juniors: Scones, Miss L. Pain, 1; Miss N. Birch, 2. Flowers. Mrs Scharnwebber and Miss Birch, 1; Mesdames Pike and Shaw, 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs R. Welch and Miss L. Shaw. Mrs Dawson entertained with cup reading. MEETING AT RONGOKOKAKO. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Rongokokako Women’s institute was held last Tuesday,' Mrs Sigvertsen presiding over a large attendance. After the business had been dealt with, Miss D. Nagel was asked to read the report of the Federation meeting held recently at Woodville. Mrs Blewett, Nireaha, then gave a very interesting demonstration on pine-needle work, which was keenly watched by all. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded Miss Nagel and Mrs Blewett. Competitions resulted as follow: Bottled fruit, Mrs L. J. Sigvertsen, 1; Mesdames J. Payne and R. Farrow, 2. Jar of autumn leaves and berries, Miss E. Sigvertsen, 1; Mrs Baucke, 2. Best bloom, Miss E. Sigvertsen (rose), 1; Miss D. Nagel (chrysanthemum), 2. A mystery parcel donated by Mr J. P. Sigvertsen was won by Miss P. O’Neil. The hostesses, Mesdames M. and B. Morriss and R. Farrow, served a dainty afternoon tea, after which the singing of the National Anthem brought a pleasant afternoon to a close.
