BIBLE SOCIETY
SERIES OF MEETINGS.
ADDRESSES BY ORGANISING SECRETARY. The second of a series of meetings being held in connection with the Masterton branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society took place on Monday at the residence of Mrs G. G. Tolhurst, the first having been held in the little church at Wangaehu on Sunday afternoon, when Mrs Violet Wakelin, organising secretary from Wellington, who is visiting the district, spoke on the value of the Bible to ourselves, and' the question as to whether we read it as we should. The meeting at Mrs Tolhurst’s home was attended by a number of ladies, whose interest and enthusiasm was most gratifying. On this occasion Mrs Wakelin concentrated on the work of the Society overseas, amongst the so-called heathen races and gave encouraging accounts and instances of the work and its results in countries all over the world. The vastness of the areas covered and the inaccessibility of some of the places visited by the colporteurs, the faithful native workers who distributed the Scriptures on behalf of the Society, was specially stressed. A dainty afternoon tea was then served.
Funds are of course needed to carry on this important and necessary work, and a few more collectors are urgentlyrequired to replace those helpers of previous years, who of necessity find themselves unable to continue their work in the future. Ladies in the Central Masterton district who are interested arc- asked to communicate with Mrs E. T. Brown, hon secretary.
At the close of, the meeting Mrs Wakelin tendered her thanks to all collectors, and also to Mrs Tolhurst for her kind hospitality and to Mrs E. T. Brown for her able work during the past year.
