EKETAHUNA

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Mayor (Mr W. Simpson) presided at the* monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council. The treasurer (Mr B. Dinnan) 1 reported as follows: —District Fund Account: Dr. £271 8s lid; Domain Account, cr: £7 15s 3d; outstanding rates including 1938-39, £476 6s 3d; cemetery arrears, £l7 ss; library arrears, 17s 6d. A letter was received from the Wairarapa Hospital Board stating that the council’s contribution this year ’had been raised by £lB ss. The total amount payable by the council is now £196. The Fire Brigade wrote applying for 200 feet of new hose and also asked to have the motor-room at the station lined.—lt was decided that the former request be granted. The lining of the room was held over until a future date. The Brigade wrote seeking information concerning firemen on duty at the Public Hall—lt was resolved not to take any action in the matter. Councillor Ryan reported that during last Saturday considerable damage had been caused by footballers to the rooms at the pavilion. Window sashes had been cut, a large hole had been kicked- through a fibre plaster wall, a window broken and other ininor damage had been done to the ladies’ rooms. The Mayor moved that the Bush Rugby Union be written to regarding the damage caused last Saturday and that the union be asked to deposit the sum of £2O with the council as a guarantee against damage, and that 10 per cent of all gate money be paid to the council. Councillor Olsen seconded the motion which was carried.

The Mayor stated that it was hoped to make a start with the District Nurse’s residence immediately the Minister of Finance approved bi the loan.
