Wakely, “Kelvin Grove,” when a euchre party on behalf of the “Red Queen” (Miss Ngaire Tocker) was held. Mrs Marjorie Baker, in the absence of her mother, acted as hostess. The funds of the "Red” Queen should benefit quite substantially as the result of this effort as there- was quite a large crowd present. Mrs J. Light Duck Bags. A party of local sportsmen who recently returned from a shooting weekend at the lake reported having had a most enjoyable time from a camping, but not so favourable from a sporting point of view, their bags being considerably lighter than anticipated. However, they secured severel firstclass bites. No! not fish, but from that annoying little insect the mosquito. One person was literally smothered with bites. This will give one some indication of the mildness of the weather conditions. School Closed. It is reported that the Kaiwaiwai School has been closed and that the pupils will be conveyed by bus to the Featherston school. LETTER FROM LORD NUFFIELD. HOSPITALITY APPRECIATED. The following letter has been received by the secretary of the Automobile Association (Wairarapa) Inc., Mr N. C. C. Shepherd from Lord Nuffield: “Herewith i am sending, with my best wishes, the photograph which I promised on March 8, when I was so enjoyably and hospitably entertained by your chairman, yourself and representatives of your Association. The badge which you then so kindly presented to me is now gracing and decorating the front of the car which I most often use. I shall always treasure it as a most appropriate memento of a visit to Featherston, which I hope it may be possible for me to repeat at not too far distant a date. With warmest remembrances to you all.” It will be remembered that the Executive entertained Lord Nuffield while in the Wairarapa, and presented' him with one of the Association’s metal, car badges, as mentioned in the letter. The Association is the first in New Zealand to have entertained Lord Nuffield, truly a great honour.
