De Lacey, 66. PLUNKET SOCIETY. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of the Plunket Society was held on Monday. There were present: Mesdames Steel, Dyer, V. L. Robinson, A. Philpotts, Callender, Campbell, U. Armstrong and Trapp. An apology for absence was received from Mrs Keenan. The nurse’s report for April was as follows: —New cases, 3; visits to homes, new cases, 9; old cases, 61; visits to rooms, adults, 93; babies, 86; children, 12; test scales lent once; telephone calls, 18; test feeds at rooms, 5; car mileage, 300 miles. Ways’ and means of, raising money for the forthcoming appeal for £5OOO as a memorial to the late Sir Truby King were discussed. This appeal will begin on May 15 and it is hoped to raise the desired sum in three months. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on Monday, June 11. Accounts amounting to £22 8s 7d were passed for payment. Funeral of Mr Jensen. The funeral of the late Mr Carl Jensen took place at the Featherston Cemetery yesterday when there was a representative gathering present to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased. The Rev. R. S. Keenan, Presbyterian Minister, conducted the service at the graveside. The pall-bearers were: Messrs C. Jensen and D. Jensen (Carterton, nephews); W. Jensen (Carterton, grandson), and Alf Jensen (Featherston, son). Many beautiful wreaths covered the casket showing the esteem in which deceased was held. Personal. Miss E. A. Gaze, of Wanganui, is spending the school vacation in Carterton with her parents. Mr and Mrs A. L. A. Oakey returned from’the South Island on Tuesday, and will leave Carterton on Saturday for Auckland, where they will spend a week before taking up residence in Gisborne. Mrs Woodroff, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs A. W. Beale, Rexwood Street, will leave Carterton for her home'in Davenport, Auckland, on Saturday. Mrs Bull, of Auckland, who came to Carterton for the wedding of her niece, Miss Betty Beale, and who has been Staying with Mr and Mrs A.’ W. Eeale, will return to her home on Friday. Women's Division. At the monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of the W.D.F.U., fiftyfour members were present, Mrs E, Allen presiding. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs J. Archer in her recent bereavement. Apologies for absence were received from the following members:—Mesdames A. Whitehead, E. Hughes, P. Hodder, E. Playle' and Misses J. Anderson and J. Knowles. ' Three new members were enrolled. A committee was arranged to meet the Young Farmers’ Club on May 12 at 7.15 p.m. to make final arrangements for the combined ball to be held on May 29. It was decided to hold the Branch birthday party on the afternoon \of May 26 in St. Andrew’s Hall. Mrs E. Allen and Miss Thompson were appointed to attend the Dominion Conference to be held in Wellington during July. The results of the monthly competition were as follow: —Best shortbread: Mrs T. Hicks, 1. Best article from old felt hats: Miss M. Wilson, 1. Best bloom: Mrs L. Maitland, 1. Best shrub: Mrs G. Couper, 1. A most interesting talk on W.D.F.U. work and activities was given by Mrs R. Beu, president of the Greytown branch. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded her. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs Allen, on behalf of the branch, presented Miss Thompson with a beautiful toilet set and crystal bowl in appreciation of her work as secretary during the past three years. A dainty afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames J. Archer, W. Earl, J. Peterson, T. Bassett, Ewington and E. Clough. Hockey Teams. The Carterton A team to play Greytown A at Carrington Park on Saturday will be as follows: — Sewell, O'Keefe <3), Deller, Andrews, Archer, Fisher, Maisey. Butcher, McPhee. B team to play College Old Boys at Masterton: —McKenzie, Hopkins, Manley. Goodin. McPhee <2), White. Williams, Ward, Fitzgerald, Butcher. Odd Fellows' Visit. A large number of members of the Carterton Lodge of Odd Fellows (Manchester Unity) will pay a fraternal visit to Mangatainoka Lodge on Saturday evening. Heavy Windstorm. A very heavy windstorm struck Carterton yesterday afternoon, and made conditions out of doors very unpleasant. During the night heavy rain fell but today the conditions are much improved.

Pipe Band Dance. A very pleasant time was spent in the Clareville Hall where a dance, organised by the Pipe Band Committee was held. The proceeds are to go towards the Pipe Band Uniform Fund. The music was supplied by Mrs Rodgers (piano), Mr Knowles (violin), and Mr S. Hall (kettle drum). The Monte Carlo was won by Mrs C. McPhee and Mr Rodgers.
