DETAILS OF MESSAGE WITHHELD BEARER WITHOUT DIPLOMATIC STATUS. UNOFFICIAL SPECULATIONS. (Received This Day, 10.1.5 a.m.) LONDON, May 9. • Whitehall has admitted that Monsignor Godfrey saw Lord Halifax, lo hand over a Papal message, but' it was claimed, in view of Monsignor Godfrey’s non-diplomatic status, that Whitehall was unable to discuss or reveal the contents of the message. It is learned, however, that Monsignor Godfrey handed over a suggestion from the Pope for a Five Power (England, France, Italy, Germany and Poland) conference regarding Danzig and the Polish Corridor. . NEWS IN PARIS, POWERS CONSULT POLAND. (Received This Dav, 10.40 a.m.) PARIS. May. 9. Papal circles were instructed last weekend to make diplomatic representations in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Warsaw, as a result of which England and France are reported to be consulting Poland. It is stated that M. Bonnet’s reply to the Nuncio ; was non-committal, pending Cabinet consideration. VISIT TO HITLER PAPAL NUNCIO AND- POLISH SITUATION. (Received This Day. 10.40 a.m.) BERLIN. May 9. It is semi-officially stated that the visit of the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Orsenigo, to Berchtesgaden on May 5 concerned the Polish situation. JESUIT INTERMEDIARY. (Received This Day, 10.40 a.m.) ROME, May 9. The Jesuit. Father Peitro Tacchiventuri. who was most prominent in the settlement, of the quarrel between the State and the Church in 1929. is reported to be acting as the Pope’s intermediary with Signor Mussolini.
