APOSTOLIC DELEGATE VISITS LORD HALIFAX Reported Conference Proposal MEDIATION BETWEEN FRANCE AND ITALY (Independent Cable Service.i i Received 'This U.’tV, 10.5 a.m.) LONDON, Al ay 9. The Apostolic Delegale, Monsignor Godfrey, visited Lord Halifax. The British L'niled Press Paris correspondent says it is reliably reported Hint the Pope suggested that the time might be ripe for mediation between France and Italy, by a conference of the interested Powers at the Vatican. France is lukewarm, contending that the normal diplomatic channels are still open. Herr Hitler is reported to bo not antagonistic to a suggested mediation between Germany and Poland, but a Five Power conference is regarded as most unlikely.
