OTAKI MAIDEN PROSPECT
(By
“The Cynic.”)
Nothing at Feilding looked unluckier than Regicide, and that three-year-old should have a wonderful chance of opening his winning account in the Kuku Maiden at Otaki this week. He shows his best form in easy going. A Prospect. Guiding Light’s mission this week is still in the air, but if the Lord Warden mare goes to Otaki instead of Gisborne her gallant effort at Waverley will not be overlooked by backers when she lines up for the Waitohu Handicap. May Surprise. The distance , of the Huia Handicap at Otaki may be considered by the majority as being too short for Quadroon. but the Nigger Minstrel gelding has been working so well in the past few weeks that he may prove a surprise packet. High Caste’s Owner. Mr H. E. Tancred, owner of High Caste, has never seen his 7000 guineas purchase in a race. Before the deal was completed he had made arrangements for a trip to U.S.A., and the nearest he got to High Caste's races was to listen to the broadcast while he was travelling pn the Monterey. Promising. Wexford Bridge is showing promise as a steeplechaser and is pleasing by his displays at Riccarton. A North Island programme has been mapped out for him beginning, with the Manawatu and Wanganui winter meeting.
High Priced. The highest-priced yearling at the Doncaster (Eng.) September sales in 10.36 was the Fairway-Golden Hair colt, for whom Miss D. Paget gave 15,000 guineas. Known as Colonel Payne, he has started only once, running third in a two-year-old race, and, when a bad knee prevented him from being trained last year, it was thought the turf had seen the last of him. Nows at four years, another attempt is to be made to put him through a preparation. He recently returned to England, after being spelled in Ireland, and has been taken in hand by F. Darling.
Raced Well. Noisy Night, who raced well m the hack events at Whangarei, without getting into the money, is a six-year-old elder relative to Late Night, who, a couple of seasons ago, when trained by J. T. Jamieson, won several two-year-old races in Australia. Noisy Night is an example of good nomenclature, being by Hunting Song from the equally aptly named Smoke Concert (Land of Song-Smoky). MARLBOROUGH MEETING CONCLUDING DAY EVENTS. CHIEF EVENT TO FLAMMARION. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) BLENHEIM. May 8. The Marlborough Racing Club's autumn meeting concluded in beautiful weather.
