CALL FOR RECRUITS
MR SAVAGE TO BROADCAST. TERRITORIALS AND DEFENCE POLICY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. By means of broadcast addresses, the Prime Minister. Mr Savage, intends to participate soon in the campaign for recruits for the Territorial Force. He said in an interview last evening that ne hoped these would help to stimulate interest in the Territorial movement. This addresses would also provide the public with an opportunity of understanding the Government’s policy on defence. Mr Savage said that no definite arrangements had yet been made for him to speak “over the air” on the question of defence, but it would certainly be very soon. The Government still had several reports relating to defence toconsider. It had the reports of the British Air Mission and the Pacific Defence Conference. The officer Commanding the New Zealand Military Forces, Major-General J. E. Duigan, had also reported concerning the use that could be made of 50,000 men. A report had yet to be received from Major-General P. J. Mackesey, one of the British delegates to the Pacific Defence Conference, who would be reporting on the land defence forces of tne Dominion. All these reports were more or less related, and must be discussed together. He could not say if it would be necessary to study them before he delivered his addresses, but in any case he first wanted to consult the services and get an idea as to the best means of approach.
