FEATHERSTON

CHESS MATCHES. (“Times-Age” Special.) Chess players from Carterton, Greytown and Featherston met at Mr H. Kidd’s residence, Greytown, for their bi-weekly match. These gatherings take place during the winter months. The next matches will be played at Captain Barcham’s residence on Friday, May 19. The following is the result of the games played:—F. Personal Items. The teachers and scholars of the Featherston school tendered a farewell to Miss Lindsay who has received notice of her transfer to the Normal School, Dunedin, as infant mistress. Mr Hayes, on behalf of the teachers, presented Miss Lindsay with an attache case and from the scholars Miss Lindsay received a crystal vase. Miss Linday suitably acknowledged the gifts. Mr and Mrs A. Leslie who have been motoring in the north, have returned. Misses Margaret Lawson, Betty Rowles, Joan McKenzie and Joyce Hatton, pupils of the Wellington College, are spending the term holidays with their parents. Mr and Mrs A. S. Kilsby and their daughter, Judith, are spending the school vacation in Wellington. Mesdames N. C. C. Shepherd, S. Raper, H. Lawson (Featherston) and C. Tacker (Christchurch) left yesterday for the Chateau en route to Whakatane and Mercury Bay. Mrs E. Saxton, who has been the guest of her daug-uter. Mrs H. R. Bloxam, has left for her home in New Plymouth. Musical Recital. Miss Dorothy Chisholm, A.T.C.L., gave a very successful recital in the Kahutara Hall on Saturday last. Her pupils acquitted themselves in a very creditable manner vvnich must have been very gratifying to their young teacher. - At the conclusion of the recital Miss Chisholm, assisted ny net-mother, entertained the performers and parents to afternoon tea.
