OBITUARY
MISS A. M. JONES. The many friends of Miss A. M. Jones, of Masterton, will regret to hear of her death, which occurred in a nursing home yesterday. The late Miss Jones, who had resided all her life in Masterton, had been in indifferent health for some time. 'Born in Masterton 49 years ago, she was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Henry Jones, pioneer residents of the town and a grand-daughter of the late Mr Henry Jones, Senr., founder of the Methodist Sunday School in Masterton. In her younger days the late Miss Jones took up the study of music. Her capabilities in that direction were recognised by Mr A. B. Wallace and under his tuition she secured her L.R.A.M. degree within five years. She later took up the teaching of music, which she continued until four years ago. Thirty years ago Miss Jones was appointed organist at the Masterton Methodist Church, a position she held until the time of her death. She was also an ardent worker in the interests of the Masterton Orchestral Society, in which as organist she took part in many recitals and was preparing for another concert to be given in the near future. The Methodist Church and the Orchestral Society in particular and the community in general have suffered a severe loss in the death of Miss Jones, who was an organist of outstanding ability. Besides many other relatives, four brothers, Messrs G. H. Jones (Blenheim), E. G. (Petone), H. J. Jones (Masterton) and R. J. Jones (Wellington) are left to mourn their loss. The funeral will take place tomorrow and will leave the Methodist Church, following a service to be held commencing at 2.30 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. MRS A. CONNELLY. The death occurred at the Masterton Public Hospital at an early hour this morning of Mrs Anne Connelly, of 51 Albert Street, Masterton, widow of the late Mr Michael Connelly, aftei’ a long illness. The interment will be private.
