SAVAGE MURDERS
TWO MEN SENTENCED TO DEATH. CRIMES IN NEW SOUTH WALES. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. SYDNEY, May 3. At Armidale Criminal Court today John Trevor Kelly, aged 24, a motor mechanic, was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Marjorie Constance Somenad on February G. At the same Court last week Fabian Fogarty, aged 32, was. convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Mrs Edna Muriel Dixon, aged 24, and her sister Gwendoline Murray, aged 15, at their station homestead at Bendermeer on February 10. Both crimes were similar in feature and pleas of Insanity on behalf of the prisoners were rejected.
Constance Sommerlad was attacked with an axe while in bed at the farm of her brother, Eric Sommerlad, four miles from Tenterfield. Her head was frightfully battered. Her brother, who was similarly assailed, was found unconscious. The tragedy was discovered by a sister who visited the house on the next day.
