YOUNG FARMERS
PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES AN INFORMATIVE BOOKLET. I VIGOROUS GROWTH RECORDED. An attractively produced booklet detailing the programme of activities qf Wairarapa Young Farmers’ clubs for the forthcoming season indicates that the movement is making substantial progress in the district. Mr N. Lamont, of the Department of Agriculture, who is responsible for the compilation, states that the booklet will enable club members to be fully aware of their club's activities and of district and provincial activities well in advance, as a result of which, it is hoped, attendances will be larger and club affairs generally will benefit by more efficient planning. It will also provide better opportunities for inter-: club contacts within the district as well as assisting clubs by making all familiar with any very good practices adopted by any individual club. “Finally,” Mr Lamont states, “it is felt that even at this late date there are many who do not fully appreciate the scope of the work undertaken by Young Farmers’ clubs. There is still, in all districts, a large number of potential club members who for some reason or other have not taken the opportunity that is offered them, not only to accumulate knowledge of definite economic value but also to increase the pleasure and interest derived from everyday existence. In the early days of the Young Farmers’ clubs movement much was written and said of its possibilities and a ready response was obtained from those 7 who could clearly see the potentialities of the organisation. There can be few, however, who really anticipated the vigorous growth that has occurred —until now this booklet can be presented as a practical illustration of what is actually being accomplished by a single district. No longer need the possibilities of the movement be stressed but the actualities can be placed before you to speak for themselves. There can be no doubt that the Young Farmers’ Club movement is a prominent addition to the already striking achievements of co-operative movements in this Dominion and for its further success no more should be necessary than this unadorned recital of some of the privileges of membership.” An outline is given of the privileges of membership, of district and provincial activities and of club programmes for the year. A list of officers of Wairarapa clubs is also included.
