FLAG LOWERED

SWASTIKA NOT POPULAR IN BRISBANE LABOUR MARCHERS SHOW HOSTILITY. CONSUL ACCEPTS POLICE ADVICE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day. 10.30 a.m.) BRISBANE. May 1. As the result of police advice to the German consular authorities after a Labour Day procession had passed the Consulate, the Swastika flag was hauled down from the front of the Consulate. Hostile shouts had come from marchers in the procession and feeling ran high among the bystanders. Additional police were stationed directly beneath the flag. There was much booing as the procession passed and shouts of: “Down with Hitler!” A large crowd later collected near the building and the flag was then drawn down.
