FEATHERSTON
EXCELLENT GROWTH OF GRASS. FOLLOWS ON GOOD RAIN. (“Times-Age” Special.) Following the recent good rain there is an excellent growth of grass, the paddocks and lawns being richly green as compared with the parched appearance of a few days ago. Strangely enough sheep, particularly breeding ewes, are showing the effects of the long dry spell of weather. This is probably caused by the change from dry, hard feed to a sudden flush of new grass. Wairarapa Lake. It was recently reported that the outlet of the Wairarapa Lake had been opened, but judging by the amount of water covering the low lying land the Lake must have closed again. The road to the Lake Domain is under water in places. Recently erected "mai mais” are in many instances/Well under water. However, there are still a few days to go before the shooting season opens and in the meantime an opening of the Lake may oe made. Sale of Poppies. The sale of poppies this year in the Featherston district resulted in the sum of £33 being obtained as against £27 12s in 1938. Personal. Mrs A. R. Bloxam, who has been the guest of Mrs H. R. Bloxam, has returned to her home in Wairoa.
