MASTERTON CLUB OPEN DAY. GOOD SCORES RETURNED. The Masterton Golf Club held a most successful open day tournament during the weekend. There were over 50 competitors, including a number of visitors and with excellent playing conditions some good scores were recorded. The following are some of the cards: — Bogey. G. R. Joy. 2 up; E. Joy, 136; T. H. Horton, 143; D. Stratton, 143; W. E. Holdgate, 144. MAHUNGA CLUB. SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENED. The official opening of the Mahunga Golf Club’s season took place on Saturday in fine weather when there was an attendance of over 100. The club captain, Mr I. I. McGregor, before calling on the president to declare the season open, expressed his pleasure in being back in New Zealand after his tour abroad and extended a warm welcome to new members and to visiting players. Mr McGregor paid a tribute to the work of the committee in the extensive improvements carried out on the course during the year and he felt assured that members would enjoy the,season’s golf. The president, Mr G. H. Perry, also complimented the club on the improved condition of the links and he understood that a considerable increase had resulted in the membership. In declaring the course open he wished the club a successful season. Mr Perry apologised for the absence of Mrs Perry, who had a prior engagement and also for the club’s patron, Mr T. Jordan, who, unfortunately, was unable to be present. A mixed foursome played over 9 holes was won by Miss Taylor partnered by Mr M. Martin and the club president presented the trophy to the winners. Members and visitors were the guests of the president at afternoon - tea and a most enjoyable afternoon terminated with a hearty vote of thanks to the president. RIVERSIDE CLUB. RESULTS OF SATURDAY’S PLAY. The first round of the members’ competition was played on the Riverside Golf Club’s links on Saturday. A sealed handicap resulted in F. Shearer, G. Beecroft, G. Jones and R. Wearne being equal-and G. Jones won after a draw-off.
