MATERNITY BENEFITS
VIEWS OF MEDICAL MEN. NORTH AUCKLAND DECISION. (By Telegrapli—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, This Day. A representative meeting of Northland doctors decided on Saturday night that they would be willing to accept service under the Maternity Benefits contract, subject to the following conditions: — That the post-natal treatment period required for a £5 fee should be limited to 14 days from the date of the birth of the child, irrespective of what complication arises. Treatment required after the expiration of the 14 days post-natal period should be considered outside the terms of the contract fee for anaesthetist, assistant or consultant practitioner. Provision to be made for a payment up to £5, in addition to the £5 allowed, in a case where the condition requires more than an average amount of ante-natal or post-natal attention by more than one practitioner. The £5 fee is satisfactory if paid to one practitioner, but not satisfactory if. divided among two or more giving partial services in cases requiring many ante-natal or post-natal treatments. The mileage payment should be four shillings. MEETING IN CARTERTON. WAIRARAPA DOCTORS’ RESOLUTION. A meeting of Wairarapa doctors held in Carterton last night resolved to solidly support the rest of the Wellington Division of the B.M.A. and refuse a contract under the maternity benefits scheme in its present form.
