SOCIAL SECURITY

REGISTRATIONS OF WOMEN AND YOUTHS. Owing to a typographical error the number of registrations of women during the week at the Mastertoil Post Office under the Social Security Act was given incorrectly in Saturday's issue. Actually the number registered during the week was 4500 women and 500 youths. As Anzac Day was a holiday, this means that these registrations were dealt with in 41 days, the number handled per day being at least a thousand. A few latecomers were applying for registration this morning and the staff will be able to enjoy a breather before a somewhat similar rush sets in later in the month for the relicensing of motor vehicles. Incidentally, the new plates, which have to be attached to vehicles on June 1, are now procurable and the wise motorist will make early application and avoid unnecessary delays. On the first day for licensing last year only eight plates were issued.
