Montreal.—lt is expected that the first ship to enter the Port of Montreal for the 1939 shipping season will be the s.s. East Wales, hailing from Argentina with a cargo of linseed. Every year there is a lively race between ships using this route, as the captain of the vessel to first enter this port at the commencement of each shipping season is presented with a gold-headed cane. In 193 G, a sister ship, the s.s. West Wales, won the honour.
