A very enjoyable evening was held in the band room on Wednesday evening to farewell Mr and Mrs H. B. Goodin and family who are shortly leaving Carterton to take up their residence at Te Awamutu. Dancing was indulged in to excellent music supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton and Mrs S. Te Tau until after midnight. Extras were played by Messrs E. and J. Sewell (piano accordeon) and the duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr R. O'Keefe. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs W. Haste and Mr Ewing. During the evening Misses D. Archer, E. Jensen and G. Bradbury entertained with tap dancing and were warmly applauded for their effort. After the supper adjournment Mr Upritchard in a few well chosen words presented Mr and Mrs Goodin with an eiderdown on. behalf of their friends in Carterton and wished them every success and prosperity in their new sphere of life. Mr Goodin, on behalf of himself, his wife and family, thanked those present for the gift and their good wishes. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and “For they are Jolly Good Fellows” followed. The annual meeting of the Carterton Municipal Silver Band was held in the band room last night. There was a large attendance of the public who were most enthusiastic. It was the best meeting for several years. For some time past the band has not been able to function as it should do owing to the lack of players. Last night’s meeting gave an indication that the residents generally do not wish the band to go into recess. Mr A. Adams presided. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted, the latter showing a very healthy ■ credit balance of £B2 Os Bd, which was considered most satisfactory. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. B. Allen; president, Mr W. Howard Booth; vice-presi-dents. Messrs D. L. Taverner, B. Roberts. R. G. Kemble. G. A. Vincent. W. J. Ticehurst, P. Bannin, G. E. Allen. F. Yule, W. Sorenson; secretary, Mr HT. Ray; treasurer. Mr A. G. Rabbitts; executive .committee, Messrs A. G. Rabbits. P. L. Beere. J. M. Nichols. T. Mellish, R. Haste, S. Hall, J. Billington, A. Adams. M. Banks. J. L. Harris; conductor. Mr Tom Udy; supervisor, Mr L. J. Harris. Several old players who had dropped out stated that they intended to again take an active part in band affairs. Band practices will be held each week under the new conductor and with the assistance of several old players and the training of new recruits, there is every reason to believe that the Carterton band will be brought back to that state of proficiency it enjoyed a few years ago.
