INTERPROVINCIAL JUDGING
COMPETITIONS WIN FOR MANAWATU. WAIRARAPA PLACED THIRD. The interprovincial Young Farmers' Clubs' judging competitions were concluded at Mastertoll yesterday and the final results were announced at an afternoon fra gathering at Hugo and Shearer's. Mr W. James. who presided, announced that the inter-district competition had been won by Manawatu with 414 points, Wanganui with 408 points being second and Wairarapa, 403 points, third. The winning team was Messrs V. C. Lewis (Jerseys). I. D. Colquhoun (Romneys), A. Viles (Clydesdales) and G. A. Mitchell (Southclowns).
The winners of the individual sections were: Clydesdales. J. G. Wilson (Wanganui); Romneys. J. 11. Marshall (Wanganuil; Jerseys. V. C. Lewis (Manawatu); Southdowns, G. S. McLeod (Wairarapa).
Mr James congratulated the Manawatu team on its fine win. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, he said. had presented a handsome challenge cup for the interprovincial competition and he asked Mr E. M. Henderson, Masterton manager of the firm, to present it and miniatures to the winning team. Mr Henderson said he had been agreeably surprised to see so much interest taken in the competitions. He was satisfied that it was a splendid movement, offering great opportuhities. The young farmers of today, with their educational advantages., had wonderful chances in front of them. There was no need for those who had not been, successful in the competitions to be discouraged. Mr Lewis, manager of the Manawatu team, thanked the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Company, through Mr Henderson, for presenting the cup, which he said he would be very pleased to take back. In rim Manawatu. The Wairarapa dislfict committee was to be congratulated on the efficient manner in which it had organised and conducted the compel it ions. Thanks were also due for the enjoyable afternoon tea. Mr James then presented miniaturecups, donated by the Wairarapa Council, to the individual winners. Mr J. Marshall, manager of the Wanganui team, thanked the Wairarapa Council for its generosity in presenting the individual cups. The competitors, he said, had benefited exceedingly by what they had seen and had been assisted considerably by the excellence of the stock brought forward. Mr S. Freeman. Dominion Organising Secretary, said . that- although the Wairarapa had controlled the competitions, the idea had originated in the Wellington Cbunbil. which was io be congratulated. It was good to see the progress that was being made and it Was hoped to extend the competitions throughout New Zealand. It spoke Well for the organisation of the clubs that the Competitions had been so well supnorted. Mr J. Hamblyn, Fields Superintendent Department of Agriculture, said he Was quite satisfied that they were working along the right lines. It was a good thing for the farming industry for the young meh to team how to place stock accurately. Mr James thanked the Wairarapa Training Farm Trustees, the manager, Mr Blatchford, the judges, those who lent stock and all who had assisted towards the success of the contests. ENJOYABLE DANCE. The visitors and others Were entertained at a most enjoyable dance held on Wednesday night in the Arcade Hall. There was a large attendance and the dance was most successful. Excellent mtisie was provided by J. Mackay’s Dance Band and the ditties of M.’sC. were capably carried out by Messis G. Blatchford and D. McGregor. A very ehjoyable supper was provided by a ladies’ committee under the direction of Mrs W. James. The dance was organised by the Masterton committee and the proceeds were in aid of the district committee entertainment fund.
