DEFENCE OF CANADA
POLICY DECLARATION AIR FORCE TRAINING. PURCHASE OF ADDITIONAL DESTROYER. I3y Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. OTTAWA, April 26. Moving the Defence vote of 63 million dollars in the House of Commons, Mr lan MacKenzie (Minister of Defence) announced a three-year agreement with Britain to train Royal Air Force pilots in Canada. Negotiations were proceeding also for the purchase of a destroyer from the Admiralty to augment the four present destroyers and three mine-sweepers. “Canada,” Mr MacKenzie said, “can no longer rely on protection from the British Navy. The paths from which attack might come must be patrolled ceaselessly. Aircraft was the first line of defence, then the Navy and Army. The Government was still opposed to conscription or to an overseas expeditionary force."
