MASTERTON PLAYREADERS

SEASON OPENED LAST NIGHT. The seating accommodation in the Commercial Room of the Midland Hotel was fully taxed last night when the Masterton Playreaders held their first meeting of the 1939 season. Mr H. Mackenzie-Douglas, in declaring the season open, welcomed new members, and at the same time expressed regret at the loss the club had sustained in the removal from the district of so many valued members. The play read last night was an exceedingly amusing comedy entitled ‘‘A French School.” The readers taking part were Mrs Mirams, Misses Elliott and P. Jordan, Messrs T. A. Cunningham, C. Kyngdon, G. Olliver, V. Joseph, H. McKenzie-Douglas, J. Tier and H. H. Daniell. The stage directions were in the capable hands of Mr H. McKenzie-Douglas. The next reading will take place on May 10.
