ABILITY TO PAY

INCIDENCE OF HOSPITAL RA TING. FARMERS’ UNION VIEWS. “Hospital rating should be based on the ability to pay,” declared Mr H. Bennett, when moving at yesterday’s meeting of the Masterton branch of the Farmers’ Union that the following remit be submitted to the interprovincial conference for consideration. "That the .present system of hospital rating is entirely inequitable and this conference urges that the contribution be based on income as in the case of the Social Security Act. We stress the principle of ability to pay and taxation should be levied accordingly.” Mr H. H. Mawley, who is chairman of the Wairarapa Hospital Board: “We definitely are of the opinion that hospital rating should be based on the ability to pay.” The remit was adopted.
