The Rt Hon M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. The Hon A. Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, left Wellington for North Auckland yesterday. Mr and Mrs Harry Graham, of Duncan, Vancouver Island, are on a visit to the former’s brother, Mr D. M. Graham, Masterton.

Mr A. Latimer, stationmaster at Masterton, who has been in hospital for the past three weeks, is reported to be progressing favourably. Mr W. G. Macky, who has been engineer to the Eketahuna County Council for some years, has received a similar appointment to the Waipa County, with headquarters at Te Awamutu. Mr G. T. O'Hara Smith, late Town Clerk at Dannevirke, who has been appointed Town Clerk at Masterton, has arrived in Masterton and will commence his new duties on Monday. Mr A. F. Smith, accountant of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Palmerston North, has received notice of his transfer to the Blenheim branch of the company. Mr J. C. Tait, of the Hamilton branch, has taken up the position of accountant in Palmerston North. Mr W. Goodfellow left Wellington last night by the Dominion Monarch on one of his periodical business visits to England. In addition to making a survey of marketing conditions overseas Mr Goodfellow will inspect new industrial plants in England and in Germany. the United States and Canada.

The Hon R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, accompanied by Mr J. Wood, Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, arrived at Palmerston North on Tuesday evening and paid a visit to the military aerodrome in Ohakea yesterday morning. He met representatives of the ManawatuOroua River Board and the Kairanga County Council. Subsequently he made an inspection of the railway road between Palmerston North and Bunnythorpe before returning to Wellington. Mr J. A. Lee, M.P., has been elected to a seat on the central executive of the New Zealand Labour Party. The National Secretary of the party, Mr Wilson, M.L.C., announced last evening that the election held at the recent annual conference of the party had resulted in the re-election of last year’s central executive, with the exception that Mr P. M. Butler had not accepted nomination. Mr Lee having been elected to the vacant position. There were 45 candidates for the five scats and the voting in some instances was very close. The elected members are: Mr Brindle. M.L.C.. Mr Lee. M.P.. Mrs R. Semple. Mr P. Dowse, Mr R. Eddy.
