ALLEGED ASSAULT

CHARGE AGAINST WOMAN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 2G. Arrested early this morning Verna Galbraith, aged 25, was subsequently charged in the Magistrates’ Court with assaulting Ernest Arthur Galbraith, her husband. The police obtained a remand to May 4. “I think it would be better for her own sake if she was kept in custody.” said Detective-Sergeant Nalder. "She attacked her husband with an axe while he was asleep this morning. She is in a very nervous state." Mr C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M.: Has she any friends here? Detective-Sergeant Nalder said there were none. Mr Jenkins: 1 am her husband's solicitor. This may be the outcome of a maintenance case heard in this court on Friday. Mr Galbraith is very badly hurt, and is in hospital. The magistrate remanded accused and ordered that in the meantime she be kept apart from other prisoners.
