GREYTOWN

FIRE BRIGADE ACTIVITIES. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Monday evening. The election of officers for the year resulted as follows: —Superintendent, J. Wood; deputy superintendent, W. Wood; station officer, G. Gray; foreman, B. Workman; Ist motorman, K. Langford; 2nd motorman, C. Brunton; 3rd motorman, Guy Rhodes; secretary, H. G. Carter; treasurer, W. Wood; auditors, H. J. Nightingale and J. F. Wallis. It was decided that the Borough Council be asked to apply to the Wairarapa Power Board to have a resident linesman stationed at Greytown. It was pointed out that the danger to firemen from Neon signs in the case of fire was very great and that these should be disconnected without delay in the case of fire. Superintendent Wood gave a report on the Wanganui Conference and demonstration for which he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Ypung Farmers’ Clubs. A meeting of the Greytown Young Farmers’ Club was held in the Fire Brigade Hall on Monday evening. Mr Ray Ingley presided over a good attendance of members. A vote of sympathy was passed with the family of the late Mr H. Hawke. A debate was held on the subject of “supplying a cheese factory or a butter factory.” The members to take part in the debate with the Featherston branch will be chosen from Messrs R. Ingley, V. Gates, M. McKenzie, A. Saywell and D. Gordon. The next function of the club will be held at Morison’s Bush Hall early in May.. Personal. Miss Bellingham, Matron of All Saints Children’s Home, Palmerston North, is at present staying with Mr and Mrs Sheddon, Main Street, Greytown. * Dawn Parade. Quite a number of the Greytown Diggers and also Matron Higginson journeyed to Wellington to take part in the Dawn Parade.
