ST JOHN’S PARISH. ANNUAL MEETING.' ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting' of St John’s parishioners was held in the. Anzac Hall on Thursday night, when there was an excellent attendance, though many others were unable to attend on account of influenza. The Rev J. T. Holland in extending a welcome to those present expressed his pleasure at seing such a splendid attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mr D. H. S. Riddiford. The following reports were read:— Vicar’s Report (reviewing the pastyear and giving his hopes for the next 12 months), Centenary Appeal Campaign (Mr. K. Alle#) Ladies’ Guild (Mrs A. C. Pearce), Query Club (the vicar, in absence of Mr F. J. Staples), St John’s choir (Miss Mutter), Sunday school (the vicar). The Churchwarden (Mr A. S. Kilsby) presented his report and balance sheer. Mr J. C. Bidwell proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Kilsby for the excellent work he had caried out. The balance sheet was read and adopted. Supper was provided by the Ladies’ Guild. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Vicar’s warden, Mr D. H. S. Riddiford (appointed by the Vicar); people’s warden, Mr A. S. Kilsby; vestry, Messrs K. H. Allen, J. C. Bidwell, J W. Holland, J. R. Matthews, R. W. Matthews, J. Mutter, A. C. Pearce, P. Smith, W. Willis, C. C. Kenward; synod representative, Mrs Algar Williams; auditor, Mr C. Ritchie. Mr B. R. Webster, of Wellington, gave a very interesting and instructive talk on the responsibilities of the church members, and the need for “moral rearmament.” There were three stalls, centenary appeal, with literature and charts, showing the work done .and to be done; an exhibition missionary stall held many interesting models, beautifully carved, and various objects connected with Chinese, Indian and Melanesian life; the book stall was a great attraction, and many copies of H. W. (“Bunny”) Austin’s “Moral Rearmament,” and other books found a ready Surprise Party. Last Wednesday evening, a number of young people tendered a surprise party to Mr and Mrs Nolan Simmons, South Featherston, who were recently married. The evening was spent in card games, dancing, competitions, etc. SuppCr concluded a most enjoyable evening. Motor Cyclist Injured. While proceeding through Greytown to his home at South Featherston, Mr Allen Simmons had the misfortune to collide with a stray dog, with .the result that he had to seek medical assistance, being badly cut about the head, necessitating the insertion of J several stitches. His motor cycle was extensively damaged. Plunket Ball. At the Plunket Ball, which is to be held in Anzac Hall on Thursday night, the four Queens are to be presented:— Miss Anne Fellingham (Featherston), Miss Eileen Cole (Western Lake), Miss Nancy Corlet (Kahutara-Pihautea), Miss Ngaire Tocker (South Featherston and Kaiwaiwai). The committee and helpers are sparing no effort to make the ball the success of the season The decorations will be on an elaborate scale, and the supper will be under the supervision of a special committee of ladies. Card Party for Gold Queen. A card party was held at Mrs R. Donald’s residence, “Greengrove, recently, for Miss Eileen Cole (the Gold Queen in the Queen Carnival). The winners were Mrs Perfect and Mr R. Hardv. A box of sweets was won by Mrs R. E. Williams and novelty posy by Mr R. Donald. Dance and Euchre Party. A euchre party and dance was held at Cross Creek last week when there was a good attendance. Mrs Mellish won the ladies’ prize and Mr Bowland the men’s prize. A sucking pig was won by Mr Johnston, and a cake donated by Mrs Cole was won by Miss Flossie Saba, who judged that there were 543 peas in a bottle, the correct number being 544.
