UNUSUAL MISHAP
INCIDENT AT RANDWICK RACES. JOCKEY STRUCK BY CLOD OF EARTH. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. SYDNEY, April 23. An unusual mishap in the Tatterlalls Gold Cup race at Randwick yesterday is estimated to have cost the betting fraternity many thousands of pounds lost on Cooranga, which was ridden by E. Bartie. Just after the start a clod of earth thrown up by the leaders struck Bartie on the bridge of the nose with such force that it dazed him. Thereafter he rode blind, Cooranga finishing about eighth. Bartie was smothered in blood when he returned to the birdcage.
